WALLA WALLA, Wash.-Human remains found in Walla Walla on Dec. 8 are now under investigation.
Walla Walla PD responded to reports of possible human remains in the area of Whitman Street and Fern Avenue around 3 p.m. after a picture circulating on social media appeared to show a human femur in the dirt, according to the WWPD.
The bones were found during excavation work for an improvement project on Whitman Street between Fern and Division Street.
The bones were confirmed to be human, however, they are not believed to be recent, according to the WWPD.
Investigators are now reportedly working to determine if the bones are from a crime or a historical burial and the WWPD is asking residents to stay out of the area as the investigation develops.
