YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-Search and rescue efforts at the crash site of a Navy jet just east of Mount Rainier are ongoing.
A Navy EA-18G Growler crashed on Oct. 15 and the crash site was discovered on Oct. 16, however, the crew members onboard the jet were not found.
According to Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, the crash site is 6,000 feet up in a steep, wooded area east of Mount Rainier.
“Our priority is to locate our two aviators as quickly and as safely as possible,” said Capt. David Ganci, commander, Electronic Attack Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
The status of the flight crew cannot be confirmed without sight assessment of the area, according to NAS North Island press release.
Soldiers from 1st Special Forces Group out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord with mountaineering, high-angle rescue, medical, and technical communication skills are helping in the search.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
