Umatilla Reservation to lift open burning ban Oct. 11

MISSION, Ore.-Open burning will be allowed on the Umatilla Indian Reservation starting Friday, Oct. 11.

The Umatilla Tribal Fire Department announced that burning would be allowed on Oct. 9, with Chief James Hall saying that all other public use restrictions will also be lifted, according to a CTUIR press release.

Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation burning regulations must still be followed when the burn ban is lifted and burn permits are available online or by calling the Office of Air Quality at 541-429-7080.

Burns must be maintained and attended by someone at all times.Only natural vegetation may be burned, including woods, grasses and trees.Burning can only be done on “Burn Days.”Residential burning must be done before dusk.Fires must be completely out before being left unattended.

Burn day notices are usually updated by 9 a.m. and can be checked by calling the Office of Air Quality, according to the CTUIR.
