Yakima community invited to open house on rebuild, rail renovation project

YAKIMA, Wash.-The community is invited to an open house on the 6th Avenue rebuild and rail renovation project from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Garfield Elementary on Sept. 19.

The project, which covers a half-mile stretch of 6th Avenue from W. Walnut Street to River Road near Davis High to near Stanton Academy.

“The public’s input will help determine all aspects of this corridor, such as the inclusion and/or placement of the trolley track, size of sidewalks, amount of parking and other related considerations,” said Randy Beehler, Communications & Public Affairs Director.

According to the City of Yakima, the rebuild and rail renovation project will upgrade essential infrastructure, including roadway, utilities and enhancing the overall functionality, safety of the area.

Design of the project started this summer and the final design is expected to be completed by Dec. 2025.

Based on public feedback, the city may or may not renovate the trolley tracks along the corridor.

“Public feedback is needed to help determine what is important to the people who use this roadway,” said Beehler.

Garfield Elementary is located at 612 N. 6th Avenue.
