KENNEWICK, Wash. – Calling all collectors out there. This weekend at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, the first Pacific North West Collectors Convention is hosting a gathering of collectors of all different things, from comic books to sports cards and more.
Jasmine Gervin, one of the event organizers, said her boyfriend, a huge collector of sports cards and coins, came up with the idea.
Gervin said she grew up collecting coins and got this passion from her father, who was also a collector.
The Tri-Cities doesn’t have anything like the family-friendly Collector’s Convention and Gervin hopes it will bring the community together, specifically the kids.
“We want to get the youth involved,” said Gervin. “We really wanted to bring in the younger kids involved in this whole thing because it’s more of an adult thing.”
She said the first 50 kids to come in would choose between a pack of sports cards and a loop bag full of coins.
She said along with cards and coins, there will be food, face painting and some guests that include Dusty and Erik the Peanut Guy from the Tri-City Dust Devils.
Former Seattle Seahawks player and Super Bowl Champion Cliff Avril will be there from one to two on Saturday only, signing autographs and meeting fans.
To meet Avril, you’ll need to buy a ticket either online or in person. According to Gervin, a ticket online costs $80, and a ticket at the door costs $100. Tickets are still available.
The event begins Saturday, June 8th, and runs through Sunday, June 9th, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. each day. The convention itself is free to attend.
