KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash.-After 19 years on the job Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue Chief John Sinclair announced that he will retire on Dec. 31.
Chief Sinclair became Chief of Kittitas County Fire District 2 in 2005 and oversaw the district’s merger with the City of Ellensburg to become Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue in 2007, according to a KVFR press release on his retirement.
Chief Sinclair began his 48-year fire service career in 1977 as a volunteer firefighter before becoming a firefighter-paramedic and working through the ranks until he became Chief.
KVFR will hold a retirement celebration for Chief Sinclair in the fall with full details to be announced later this year.
The Kittitas County Fire District 2, Board of Fire Commissioners is now conducting a nationwide search for the next Chief and is open to input from the community on the next hire.
Community members are invited to regularly scheduled commissioner meetings held the second Thursday of each month to share their thoughts and opinions on the search for the next Chief.
