SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – The second in-custody death of an inmate at the Sunnyside Jail in a week is under investigation.
A 51-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday, April 8, according to the Sunnyside Police Department.
The Sunnyside Fire Department responded to the jail, but paramedics were unable to revive the man.
The inmate was arrested on April 4 and was in a cell by himself when he was found unresponsive shortly after speaking with corrections staff, according to Sunnyside PD.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the death.
The death of a 32-year-old man found unresponsive in his cell in the Sunnyside Jail on April 2 is also currently being investigated.
