KENNEWICK, Wash.- According to the United Nations, International Women’s Day is a time to inspire and celebrate women’s accomplishments.
The U.N. chooses a theme each year for IWD. 2024 is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”.
Layered Cake Artistry in Kennewick is a bakery owned by two sisters. Co-owners Elena Gavin and Concetta Gulluni began working at the family bakery in Vancouver Canada at the ages of 12 and 14.
When both of their paths lead to Tri-Cities the sisters decided to start their very own bakery.
According to the Layered Cake Artistry website, they offer desserts custom cakes, and classes in their Downtown Kennewick store.
“I think it’s important to highlight women-owned businesses because we are here, and we are highly capable. And I think that’s important to show that.” Said Elena Gavin, Co-Owner of Layered Cake Artistry.
Elena says that are very proud to be small business owners in a community like the Tri-Cities.
