YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima Valley Libraries’ annual Winter Reading Challenge began with the new year, calling for the community to spend time reading together according to a press release.

The YVL created Bingo boards filled with 24 categories for readers to fill out after finishing a book that matches one or more categories.

Readers who achieve a Bingo, multiple Bingos or fill the whole board will be entered a raffle to win prizes with one raffle entry per Bingo.

“The Winter Reading Program is always a patron favorite each year; we have die-hard participants who like to challenge themselves to complete everything from one bingo up to filling in both game cards,” said Program Librarian Krystal Corbray.

Bingo cards can be grabbed at any of the YVL’s 16 locations and the Bookmobile or printing them from the YVL website. Bingo cards must be submitted by April 1.

Categories in the Winter Reading Challenge ranges from re-reading a favorite book, listening to an audiobook, reading a different genre than usual and more.

For the first time, the YVL is also inviting children to participate in the Kid’s Winter Adventure Game, requiring kids to read books across six different genres and participate in various library activities.

All are invited to participate in the challenge. More information and rules on the event can be found on the YVL website.
