2 men charged in apparent gang shooting in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. –

Two men were recently charged for the murder of Omar Garcia in Yakima.

22-year-old Ruben Marin was charged for murder in the second degree, drive-by shooting and unlawful firearm possession while 19-year-old Blayze Choquette was charged with drive-by shooting and criminal assistance in the first degree.

According to court documents from the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney, Garcia was at an apartment complex when he was approached by three men who drove by him in a Dodge Avenger, two of which determined to be Marin and Choquette, on Roosevelt Avenue on Oct. 15.

Court documents say Garcia and an unknown man fought for around a minute. Afterwards, the group argued followed by Garcia being allegedly shot by Marin.

The three drove away while Garcia tried to get help from a nearby apartment, later being pronounced dead by medical professionals due to his gunshot wounds.

Court documents say Marin was arrested on Oct. 18 and Choquette was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 26.

According to the Yakima Police Department, a man was killed on Sunday in Yakima from what appeared to be a gang-related shooting.

Around noon on October 15, Yakima Police responded to gunshots being fired in the 1400 block of Roosevelt Avenue where officers found a man who was pronounced dead by medics due to gunshot wounds.

YPD detectives are currently investigating the shooting.

YPD is also requesting assistance from anyone in the area who have video, photos or had witnessed the shooting and urges them to contact Detective Matt Lee at 509-575-3042.
