YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – A collision between a car and a semi truck resulted in two people injured and a driver facing a negligent driving charge near Sunnyside Monday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
WSP says a semi truck slowed down for traffic at while heading westbound on I-82 two miles east of Sunnyside when a car reportedly hit the semi’s trailer from behind.
The 32-year-old driver and an eight-year-old passenger of the car, both from Richland, were injured in the crash and brought to Astria Sunnyside Hospital.
WSP says the crash’s cause was driving while drowsy. He is facing a second degree negligent driving charge.
The car was totaled in the crash while the trailer of the semi truck left with reportable damage, according to WSP.
