In an update from Sunnyside Police Chief Rob Layman, the Sunnyside Police Department is reinstating its Street Crimes Unit.
The SCU will “focus on targeting and arresting gang members who bring harm to [the] community.”
Anyone with information on the shooting and following burglary are asked to call Detective Noriega at 509-836-6200.
UPDATE 11 p.m.
Sunnyside Police are investigating the deadly shooting of a woman Jan. 7.
According to a news release, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of North Avenue.
The victim was found in a car with a gunshot wound and transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Detective said in the release that one man was arrested. According to an update at 10:20 p.m., a second man is also in custody.

Sunnyside Police are asking people to avoid the area of 16th St. and North Ave due to an active police investigation.
Sierra Vista Middle School and Sun Valley Elementary School went into a Secure and Teach status at 3:41pm, meaning doors are locked while students stay in their classrooms while continuing to learn.
The Sunnyside School District said the Secure and Teach status was canceled at 3:58 p.m.
Students from Outlook Elementary, who live between Cemetery and 16th on North Avenue, were picked up at Washington Elementary cafeteria.
Students from CK on Bus #17 were picked up at CK office.
