INTERSTATE 82 -A ten-year-old boy was killed in a car versus semi truck crash on I-82 east of Ellensburg on Sept. 1.
Washington State Patrol Troopers responded to the crash involving a Chevy Express van and a semi truck in the eastbound lanes just before 4 p.m.
According to the WSP, both the car and truck were eastbound near milepost 7, about seven miles east of Ellensburg when the driver of the van tried to change lanes and hit the truck.
The 10-year-old boy who was a passenger in the van died at the scene.
The driver of the van, a 24-year-old Sunnyside woman and another passenger, an 8-year-old boy were uninjured in the crash.
The truck driver, a 37-year-old from Jocotitlan, Mexico was also uninjured in the crash, according to the WSP.
I-82 eastbound at Thrall Road between Ellensburg and Yakima was fully blocked due to the crash for several hours.
Detours were available through local roads, according to the Washington Department of Transportation . The WSDOT Real-Time Travel Map showed stop-and-go traffic right before the location of the closure.
A detour was available through State Route 821.
